Spreading the love is an important part of the writing process.
Twitter has done as much as grad school in allowing me to support and befriend other writers, and this seems to be the week for announcements. New book deals, release dates, and giveaway offers are just some of the items in my newsfeed that I’m excited about.
- My friend Michael R. Underwood has had a deluge of good news lately, from the cover reveal for his upcoming novella, ATTACK THE GEEK, to two new series, SHIELD AND CROCUS and THE YOUNGER GODS, and a deal with Pocket Books for another Ree Reyes adventure in 2015. Now, if only I can get him to share some of those magic beans he must be hoarding…
- On the creative non-fiction side – I met Lilibet Snellings at USC and helped to workshop the essay that was the inspiration for her first memoir, BOX GIRL. Can’t wait to get my hands on it and read all about her adventures as a part-time art installation at the Standard Hotel in West Hollywood.
- I don’t know Melissa Landers personally, but I read and reviewed ALIENATED for All Things Urban Fantasy, and quickly fell in love with her characters. The wait for the sequel will be interminable, but you can win an advanced reader copy of INVADED by entering one of the giveaways listed on her Facebook page.
- The third book in Gail Carriger‘s Finishing School series has a release date! WAISTCOATS AND WEAPONRY is available for pre-order and will be released on November 4th. Gail has also unveiled the cover for the much-anticipated first book in the new Custard Protocol series, PRUDENCE, which also has a release date of March 17, 2015.
There are a few other friends and acquaintances I’m keeping my eye on – I look forward to sharing their good news too. Just remember fellow struggling writers: supporting each other is a far better use of time and energy than envy.
