The Business of Writing: Promoting Authors and Friends

Spreading the love is an important part of the writing process.

Book Shelf

Twitter has done as much as grad school in allowing me to support and befriend other writers, and this seems to be the week for announcements. New book deals, release dates, and giveaway offers are just some of the items in my newsfeed that I’m excited about.

  • On the creative non-fiction side – I met Lilibet Snellings at USC and helped to workshop the essay that was the inspiration for her first memoir, BOX GIRL. Can’t wait to get my hands on it and read all about her adventures as a part-time art installation at the Standard Hotel in West Hollywood.
  • The third book in Gail Carriger‘s Finishing School series has a release date! WAISTCOATS AND WEAPONRY is available for pre-order and will be released on November 4th. Gail has also unveiled the cover for the much-anticipated first book in the new Custard Protocol series, PRUDENCE, which also has a release date of March 17, 2015.

There are a few other friends and acquaintances I’m keeping my eye on – I look forward to sharing their good news too. Just remember fellow struggling writers: supporting each other is a far better use of time and energy than envy.
