Good Housekeeping: Announcements and Updates

And so we come to the end of October.

geeky ornaments sherlockA calendar of geeky events for November is now available, and I’ll continue to update it throughout the month. If you know of a geeky event happening in L.A., send me a comment either here or on Twitter, and I’ll add it to the calendar. I’m going to be at Whimsic Alley’s Time Lord Ball on the 16th; still working on my costume.

In other news, I’ve been sitting on this for about a week, waiting for the right time to share that I’m going to be a contributor to All Things Urban Fantasy!¬†They picked me to join their team in reviewing books ‘where para is normal,’ and I’m extremely excited for the chance to hone my skills as a critic while enjoying new books in my favorite genre. Future book reviews will be posted there, and cross-posted to sites like Amazon and Goodreads. Though I’ll still be reading books outside the genre, I probably won’t be reviewing them, but if I do, you’ll find those here, or through my Goodreads account.

This news, however, has brought me to the decision to put YA Rewind on hiatus for the time being, probably through the end of the year. I don’t expect my little podcast to disappear forever, but I need some time to balance my schedule of reading, writing, and job hunting. And if things work out, when I relaunch in 2014, I’ll have some cool additions to the program.

My last bit of news is about uGeek – the holidays approach ever sooner each year, and so now is the time to get your orders in for custom, hand-painted geeky ornaments. As I am still job hunting, these sales are my only income, and even the purchase of a single ornament makes a difference.¬†Ornaments are the only items in my shop that are made to order, which means if any sell out, I will relist them, providing I have the necessary materials for fast production. If you like an ornament, but it seems to be sold out, don’t give up – another listing will appear just as soon as I’m sure I can make it in a timely fashion. Looking for a special nerdy design that you don’t see in my shop? E-mail me with a reference photo, and I’ll see what I can do to make it a reality.

Other items in the uGeek Etsy store are one-of-a-kind, though I’ll make some exceptions on custom orders, if I believe the design can be duplicated. But if there’s something you have your eye on for a Christmas or Hanukkah present, you might want to snatch it up now before someone else does.
